Everything you need to know about Crete !
|
Maps
This map shows the
area of Western Crete known as the Chania region. Aptera, where our
marriage ceremony will take place, is approx 20 minutes drive from
Georgioupolis where the reception will take place, and where the
majority of our wedding party will be staying. For this reason, we
recommend that you try to book accommodation either in Georgioupolis
itself or the nearby resorts of Almirida (also known as Almeritha), Kalives or Kournas.

Flights
- There are two
airports in Crete, the most popular is Heraklion in Eastern Crete,
however, this is a good 2-3 hours drive away and not recommended. As you
will see from the map above, the smaller airport at Chania is much
nearer. Flights to Chania leave the UK every Tuesday and most airlines
fly from Gatwick and Manchester. Flight time is approx 3 and 1/2
hours.
***Update 14/05/05:- We
have been informed that anyone who has booked through Kosmar may have
a longer flight time as they are having to make a stop at Bristol, or
Newcastle. Unfortunately, all we can do is advise you to be prepared
for a longer journey time.
We booked our
flights and accommodation through Kosmar (brochure available from
Co-op Travel or book online at
www.kosmar.co.uk) as they also fly
from Birmingham, East Midlands, Newcastle and Bristol. See the
'Accommodation' section of this site for more options, including
flight only deals from Excel Airways.

Local Information -
Western Crete is
a beautiful and tranquil area, full of amazing views and stunning
flora and fauna. The following websites can give you more information.

Weather
- As with any country, it's impossible
to know exactly what the weather will be like on the day. As a guide,
the weather in Western Crete during October is similar to the British
summer, with temperatures usually around 25oc. The evenings
tend to be cooler and because the wedding ceremony will take place in
a ruined fort by
the sea, there may be a cool breeze so bring a light jacket ! |
